How to Set Up Top Hat in a Canvas Course

  1. Access the Canvas course you want to add Top Hat in.
  2. Go to Settings and Click Navigation tab.
  3. Locate Top Hat and click the ellipses to enable it. Click Save.
  4. Click the Top Hat tool in your course navigation. You will be prompted to log into your school account.
  5. In the Search field, enter Texas State University-San Marcos and then select it from the list below.

  1. Click Log in with school account.

    NOTE: First time users will need to create a new account. Click Sign up as a Professor or Sign up as a Student. View these instructions for more help.
  2. A Connect Your Course page will appear. Locate the course to connect or click Create a New Course link to create a new Top Hat course.

  1. Click Continue.
  1. Return to Canvas and click the Top Hat link again to confirm the connection.  

NOTE: The first time you set up Top Hat, Canvas may require you to authorize the Top Hat app. Click Authorize.
