Calculate Absences

Forgive  Absences

"X" represents the number of absences a student is allowed to have before a grade penalty occurs.

An attendance record marked as Excused will be treated as Present when sending grades to Gradebook.

Score Proportionately

The grade will be calculated based on either the total number of class meetings, or the number of meetings attended.

Example:

A course has 30 class meetings and Student A was marked Absent for 2 class meetings.
Student A was marked "Present" for 28 out of 30 class meetings.
Student A's Attendance grade is calculated:

28/30 = 93.33%.

Student A's Attendance grade is 93.33.

Deduct Percentage Points per Absence

A number of percentage points per absence will be deducted from the student's Attendance grade once the number of forgiven absences has been reached.

Example:

Instructor A has set for 0 absences to be forgiven.
Instructor A's Attendance Grade Item is worth 10 points.
Instructor A sets 10 percentage points to be deducted per absence.
Student B was marked Absent for 2 class meetings, so they will lose 10% points per absence.

2 absences x 10% penalty per absence = 20% points lost
20% points lost x 10 Grade Item points  = 2 lost Attendance points.
10 Grade Item points – 2 lost points = 8 points out 10 for the Attendance Grade.
