Canvas Semester Preparation Checklist
As you get ready for the semester to begin, here is a quick checklist to help make sure you are ready to go on day one.
General Setup
- Add a profile picture.
- Canvas and Course-Level notifications.
- Review your course navigation menu, re-order and hide tools you don't want students to see.
- Add Teaching Assistants to the course and give them the TA role.
Create Groups if you would like your students to collaborate with one another. Student Guidance
- Direct students to the Canvas student guide for help.
- Setup Canvas and Course-Level notifications.
- Course Preparation Review your course settings, including the start and end dates.
Setup your syllabus.
Setup your course homepage.
By default, students can use Discussions; turn it off if you want to limit use.
Add lock dates to individual modules that you would like to unlock later.
Check page accessibility with UDOIT.
Use Student View to see how students see your course; review pages, images, and links.
Publish your course.
