What is the Learning Spaces Rating System?

The Learning Spaces Rating System (LSRS) is an assessment system created in 2015 by EDUCAUSE. It's intention is to give institutions “a way of measuring how the planning, design, and support of their learning spaces encourages multiple modes of learning”.

The LSRS is broken into two parts - Part A and Part B. Part A focuses on institutional level assessment whereas Part B focuses on an individual space. Each part has several sections within them. Each section has several credits with criteria to be met. Based on the number of criteria met, points can be awarded to the space.

Part A:

  • Section 1 - Integration with Campus Context
  • Section 2 - Planning and Design Process
  • Section 3 - Support and Operations

Part B:

  • Section 4 - Environmental Quality
  • Section 5 - Layouts and Furnishings
  • Section 6 - Tools and Technology
  • Section 7 - Inclusion
