How Students Can Embed YuJa Content in Canvas

Create a Canvas video assignment instructions

  • You must use the Online Text Entry submission type to use these instructions. 
  • The Rich Content Editor must be present for students to use this feature.

Record a Quick Video 

NOTE: Popular uses include student reactions, reflections, introductions, and more. 

  1. From your Canvas course, open the Discussion or Assignment submission area.  
  2. In the top of the Rich Editor, find the plug icon and select YuJa from the list. This option may be behind the three vertical dots if your screen is smaller.  

    NOTE: The first time you open this plug-in, it will take a few minutes to load. 
  3. Click the Record Content tab on the top right side of the Media Chooser.  
  4. Click Record with Browser Capture Studio and give your video a meaningful title.

    EXAMPLE: Course and assignment name, "COMM1310 Assignment 2 Reflection.”  
  5. Click Launch Recording to use the web capture without downloading software.  
  6. Check your recording options: 
    • Camera, Screen, or Both 
    • Select your Audio source 
    • Select your Camera preferences 
  7. Click Start Recording. 
  8. Click the Stop button on the bottom when you’re done.  
  9. Click the Upload button to complete your recording.  

    WARNING: The Discard button will delete your video entirely. You can also download the video, if you’d like.  
  10. Close the tab when the upload bar reaches 100%. 
  11. Select the video you just created and click Insert Content to attach it to your assignment/submission.  
  12. Add any other text you wish to add to your submission, then submit or post your submission.  

Attach a Pre-Recorded Video 

This use case is great for longer/finished projects, or projects with editing or multiple video/input sources. 

  1. Navigate to the YuJa webpage and login with your NetID and password.  
  2. Navigate to My Media. 
  3. Click Upload. 
  4. Find and select your pre-recorded video. You can drag and drop or browse for your video.  
    Your video will upload and process. You can still add your video to your assignment or discussion while YuJa processes it.  
  5. Log in to your Canvas course and open the assignment or discussion submission area. 
  6. In the top of the Rich Editor, find the plug icon and select YuJa from the list. It may be behind the three vertical dots if your screen is smaller.  

    NOTE: The first time you open this plug-in, it will take a few minutes to load. 
  7. Your My Media videos will appear in the Media Chooser. Select your video (it should be at the top if you just uploaded it) and click Insert Content.  
  8. Add any other text you wish to add to your submission, then submit or post your submission.
