How to Add an External App in Canvas

Add to Module

  1. Open Canvas Course 
  2. Select +Module 
  3. Select + and then select External Tool from the Add List
  4. Select the LTI's Link and then press Add Item. 
  5. Repeat these steps to add more links. You can drag and drop links to change their order or move them between modules. 

Add to Navigation 

  1. Open Canvas Course 
  2. Select Settings in the course navigation menu on the left
  3. Select Navigation Tab
  4. From the bottom of the page, drag the LTI you wish to add up into the correct position in the course navigation list. 
  5. Select Save 
  6. You’ll see your LTI Mastering in the course navigation.

Add to Assignment 

  1. Add Assignments, then click + Assignment button 
  2. Give Descriptive name and set points.  
  3. Set Assignment Group and Display Grade As you wish. 
  4. Select a Submission Type, External Tool URL, then finally select your LTI you wish to add
  5. Load this Tool in a New Tab Checkbox, then click Save and Publish so that the assignment will be available to students.

Add to a Page 

  1. Create a Canvas page, typically in a module. 
  2. Insert the cursor where you want to embed  
  3. Choose More External Tools, then finally your LTI.
