OneDrive External App for Students

The Microsoft OneDrive External App integrates with Canvas to seamlessly add Office 365 applications to your courses.

Microsoft OneDrive External App allows you to:

  • Attach Office 365 files including Word documents, PowerPoint presentations, and Excel from the Rich Content Editor

  • View and organize your Microsoft Office files

  • Create collaborations with students in your class to work together on shared documents in real time


Instructions

  • A student will be able to edit and submit their own copy of an assignment.

    1. Locate the assignment and click Edit Document on the toolbar.

      NOTE: This opens the document in new browser tab. The Canvas tab shows a pop-up asking you to click the Refresh button once you are done editing the assignment in new tab.
       
    2. Close the new browser tab where you are editing the assignment and go back to the Canvas browser tab.

      NOTE: Close the new browser tab after editing the assignment to ensure that all changes are successfully saved when you go back to Canvas browser tab to submit the assignment.
       
    3. Click Refresh.
    4. Check that all changes are visible and click Submit Assignment.

      IMPORTANT: If you find that your changes are not reflected after selecting Refresh in Canvas, you should attempt the assignment again.
    1. Select the plug icon in the Rich Content Editor and click Microsoft OneDrive.

      NOTE: On your first try, Microsoft OneDrive may not show up. In that case, you can choose View All and select Microsoft OneDrive from the pop-up.
       
    2. Select the file you want to use, then click Embed.

      Your file will be embedded in the Rich Content Editor box.

  • CAUTION: When files are linked in the Rich Content Editor, the link displays the exact name of the file. Please ensure your file names are correct before linking a file.

    1. Select the plug icon in the Rich Content Editor and click Microsoft OneDrive.

      NOTE: On your first try, Microsoft OneDrive may not show up. In that case, you can choose View All and select Microsoft OneDrive from the pop-up.
       
    2. Select the file you want to use, then click Link.

      Your file will be linked in the Rich Content Editor box.

    1. Open Microsoft OneDrive from your Course Navigation Menu.

    2. An external window will pop up. Log in using your TXST email and password.
