Syncing Grades in Top Hat
Manually Sync Grades
There is a manual grade sync button in the Gradebook. This button enables you to sync grades that have been released to students in Top Hat to Canvas.
You may select which columns should be synced. Note that if you select a folder and content within a folder, one gradebook column will be created in Canvas for each selection. Currently, you must check the LMS to verify that the sync is complete.
Grades are synced to Canvas after they are released to students in Top Hat. Grades are "released to students" in the following circumstances:
- When a student re-enrolls in a course or switches sections, and they already have released grades.
- When live gradebook is enabled, and a student answers a question. This is true whether the question is standalone or embedded in another content type.
- When the assignment due date passes or the professor unassigns content.
- When grades have been released for content in folder, and that content is moved.
- When a grade is entered manually in a gradebook.
- When attendance is entered manually in the gradebook.
- When the instructor edits a grade that has been released. Either the instructor manually edits the grade, or causes the point value to change.
- When the professor excuses/unexcuses a grade that has been released.
